What Is Bruxism?
Bruxism is one common term in the medical world. It can’t be actually called a disease; it is just a health condition. When you see any individual grinding his or her teeth, it may be as a result of the condition referred to as bruxism. One distinguishing factor about teeth grinding as regards bruxism is that it is done unconsciously. In this condition, the teeth is not only grinded, it can also be demonstrated by the gnashing or clenching of the teeth.
Bruxism can be broadly categorized into two types; it can be done while one is asleep and it can also be unconsciously done while one is awake. It needs however to be clearly noted that one’s being awake doesn't give one any control over the clenching and gnashing of teeth that occurs as a result of the condition called bruxism. The type of bruxism that occurs while one is asleep is commonly referred to as sleep bruxism.
It was mentioned earlier that bruxism is not actually a disease. Because of this, one may not really need any type of treatment for one to overcome it. This then helps to further classify bruxism to two more categories; while some form of bruxism can be mild some other ones can be very severe. The mild one of course may not require any form of treatment and one do without giving it much attention, while the severe one really requires some level of attention.
This severe type of bruxism can be so strong that it is frequently suffered by the individual to the extent that the jaw of the sufferer may become disordered. The sufferer may even have constant and consistent headache. It can be expected that teeth problem will ensue from this. The lists of problems that can ensue from this actually go on and on.
This is exactly why anyone that had been observed to be suffering from this kind of severe bruxism will need to seek for some kind of medical attention before the problem overshoots its bound. If medical attention is not taken to consideration on time, the sufferer from buxism may never be able to have anything related to peace. The individual can as well be considered not to be here anymore, since he or she will never find life meaningful in anyway.
Another type of problem that can possibly come up is the biting of the tongue. This is one thing that will never be helpful for the person in nay way. Eating may become difficult because of the damaged teeth and the injured tongue. One can’t really separate tongue biting from bruxism because of the proximity between the tongue and the teeth.
It is however possible for one to have sleep bruxism and not be aware of it; at least, not until complications develop. This then mean that the earlier any sufferer go for some medical attention of check up the better. There are dental care units all over where you can get your bruxism treatments.
